The vehicle seat has a seat part (3) and a backrest (4) as seat components. The backrest is fixed and locked by a fitting (5), which pivot relative to the seat part. A pre-stressed compensating spring (10) is effective between the seat components, which partly adjust weight of the backrest with unlocked fitting. The compensating spring firmly holds a section (10a) of the compensating spring by a fixed bearing. One of the fixed bearings movably holds a space rotary bearing (14), which is another section (10b) of the compensating spring.
