<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for eliminating the waste of continuous paper generated by automatic loading. <P>SOLUTION: A conveyance means is controlled so as to perform the automatic loading of conveying the continuous paper from a paper feed port to a predetermined position at a first conveying speed, and controlled so as to switch the conveying speed of the continuous paper to a second conveying speed which is higher than the first one by the automatic loading stopped when it is determined that the continuous paper has reached a predetermined position. It is determined whether the tip of the continuous paper has reached an image forming position. When it is determined that the position has reached the tip of the continuous paper, the forming of an image is started according to the first conveying speed.
