<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-assembly peptide gel having a variety of mechanical characteristics, and a novel method for controlling the mechanical characteristics of the gel. <P>SOLUTION: The self-assembly peptide (X) that forms aβ-sheet structure in an aqueous medium comprises a structure represented by the formula: A*<SB>1</SB>B*<SB>2</SB>C [in the formula, A constitutes the N-terminal side of the peptide; A, B, and C each are a domain comprising a nonpolar amino acid residue, an acidic amino acid residue, and an alkaline amino acid residue; each of the both terminals of the domains A, B, and C independently is an acidic amino acid residue or an alkaline amino acid residue; the domains A and C comprise at least one acidic amino acid residue and at least one alkaline amino acid residue each independently disposed only on one face (a) of theβ-sheet structure; the domain B comprises at least one acidic amino acid residue and at least one alkaline amino acid residue each independently disposed only on the other face (b) of theβ-sheet structure; and each of *<SB>1</SB>and *<SB>2</SB>independently is a domain comprising either a peptide bond or a nonpolar amino acid residue only]. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
