PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously set a face area to be detected, and properly photograph a person in a portrait mode. SOLUTION: When the portrait mode is started; a through-image display is started as a first state A1, and photographed images I are displayed continuously on a monitor. Detection operations for detecting the face regions photographing face images (f) are conducted in each photographing image I. When the face regions are detected in the detection operations, the face regions are set in the detecting-face regions F as shown in a second state A2, and the detecting-face regions F are surrounded by a first display frame R1 and displayed. When the face images (f) are not detected in the detection operations after the detecting face regions F are set, regions set in the detecting-face regions F immediately before the detection operations are set continuously in the detecting-face regions F.
