PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of simplifying the operation of a menu screen, and to provide a method of controlling the same. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus captures and records the image of an object. The apparatus comprises: a display means for displaying an operation item for performing operation corresponding to the operation mode of the imaging apparatus, a selection means for selecting the operation item, a communication means for connecting peripheral equipment communicatively, and a determination means for determining whether the peripheral equipment is connected.
