PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element capable of uniform light emission by preventing emission irregularity caused by liquid stay in the bottom parts of barrier ribs by devising the shapes of barrier ribs 31 and 32, in an organic electroluminescent element equipped with a substrate 1, pattern-like first electrodes 2 formed on the substrate, the barrier ribs 31 and 32 formed between the first electrodes 2, an organic luminescent medium layer 42 formed in a region partitioned by the barrier ribs 31 and 32 on the first electrodes 2, and a second electrode 5 facing to the first electrodes 2 by interposing the organic luminescent medium layer 42 therebetween. SOLUTION: This organic EL element is characterized in that the barrier ribs have the second barrier rib 32 on the first barrier rib 31, and the second barrier rib 32 is positioned on the outer side relative to the upper part of the first barrier rib 31.
