The method, involves measuring sensor (1) with hot medium of temperature (T1) and spatially separated reference sensor (2) which rises with a reference medium of the temperature (T2) in contact and both are directly connected with an evaluation unit (3). The evaluation unit determines the difference temperature (T1-T2) and is directly connected with a display unit (4) and both units obtain energy via a power supply unit (5). An independent claim is also included for the device for simple, intelligent, and fast determination and display of the temperature in hot media via a large temperature range directly at the ground.
