Provided are a method for preparing a hydrogenated polymer by hydrogenating a polymer repeatedly, stably and uniformly, a hydrogenated polymer prepared by the method which is excellent in heat resistance, transparency and surface hardness, and an optical material composition containing the hydrogenated polymer. A method comprises the step of hydrogenating the aromatic ring of an aromatic vinyl compound-(meth)acrylate copolymer in the presence of a catalyst in which Pd is impregnated in zirconium oxide, wherein the aromatic vinyl compound-(meth)acrylate copolymer has an A/B ratio of 0.25-4.0 by mol, A is the mol of the constituting unit derived from a (meth)acrylate monomer, and B is the mol of the constituting unit derived from an aromatic vinyl monomer. Preferably the copolymer has a weight average molecular weight of 10,000-1,000,000.
