[Class 65 (ii)] A linkage joint, particularly for vehicle steering - gear, comprises a hollow housing 10 with a part-spherical internal surface having an opening through which a pin 14 passes with clearance to fit the bore of a rigid bush 16 of an oil-retaining nature shaped to fit the part - spherical surface of the housing, the pin having a flange 17 making a good joint with the inner end of the bush and resilient means (spring 18) acting on the pin or its flange to press the flange 17, bush 16 and housing into close contact to retain oil in the hollow housing, which is closed by a cap 20. The cap 20 may be secured by turning over the edge of the housing, by a spring ring, or by screwing into the housing, and has a recess, or carries a riveted washer 25 formed with a recess, to locate the spring 18. The bush 16 is preferably of porous bronze. The housing 10 and pin 14 may be enclosed in a rubber or leather oilretaining bag. |
