A gray voltage generator and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device are provided to protect internal circuits of the LCD device by receiving plural control signals from a signal controller during a preliminary operation period. A gray voltage generator includes plural memories(810), plural digital/analog converters(820), and plural resistance strings(840). The memories receive and store a first control signal(SCONT) during a preliminary operation period, and receive and store a second control signal(ICONT) during a normal operation period. The digital/analog converters, which are connected to the memories, convert the first or the second control signal into a reference gray voltage(Vg). The resistance strings, which are connected to respective reference gray voltages, distribute the reference gray voltages, and output plural gray voltages. |
