A lamp and a backlight assembly having the same are provided to prevent a darkening phenomenon caused by absorbing mercury on an external electrode, by forming transparent external electrodes on a glass tube and using xenon gas as an inactive gas injected into the glass tube. A lamp comprises a glass tube(124), a fluorescent material(121) formed on an inner wall of the glass tube, xenon gas(123) injected into the glass tube, and an external electrode(122) wrapping either end of the glass tube. The external electrode is formed of a transparent conductor. The external electrode is formed of at least one of ITO(Indium Tin Oxide), IZO(Indium Zinc Oxide), ITZO(Indium Tin Zinc Oxide), and ZO(Zinc Oxide). |
