An emulsion comprises (wt.%): a lipid phase (more than 40) of at least one lipid selected from polar and/or moderately polar, having an interfacial tension toward water of less than 30 mN/m; and at least one 1,2-alkanediol containing 4 - 8 carbon atoms, having 1-octanol/water distribution coefficient (Ig P-ow) of -1 - 3.
