<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction engaging device for reducing the axial length of a vehicular automatic transmission in the direction of the axial center without impairing the function of the vehicular automatic transmission. <P>SOLUTION: A common snap ring 51 is interposed between a first friction engaging element 42 and a second friction engaging element 44, a circumferential groove 51a is provided in the inner peripheral face of the snap ring 51. Thus, when one end of the snap ring 51 is deformed by the thrust of one friction engaging element, the deformation of the snap ring 51 is absorbed in the circumferential groove 51a of the snap ring without being transmitted to the other end of the snap ring 51, therefore preventing influences on the other friction engaging element. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
