PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a knocking type mechanical pencil which can suppress an eccentric wear at the contact section between a chuck and a clamping ring, and can firmly hold a lead under a state in which the chuck is housed in the clamping ring, and of which the diameter is contracted. SOLUTION: This knocking type mechanical pencil comprises a barrel 1, a beak section 2 which is provided on the distal end of the barrel, a lead case 14, a fixed cylinder 10, the chuck 7, and the clamping ring 8. In this case, the lead case 14 is housed in the barrel, and vertically moves by the operation of a knocking operation section which is provided on the rear end of the barrel. The fixed cylinder 10 is located in front of the lead case, and is fixed to the barrel. The chuck 7 is provided in a manner to be able to advance/retract to the fixed cylinder, and grips the lead until the lead case advances by a specified distance by the operation of the knocking operation section. The clamping ring 8 is housed in the fixed cylinder, and regulates the expanding of the chuck. Since the chuck 7 is turned to the clamping ring 8 by the operation of the knocking operation section, a cam section 10d is formed on the fixed cylinder 10, and a protuberance section 12d is formed on a chuck joint.
