PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cover, simplifying a mechanism for moving the cover partitioning between a machining area and a machining device installation area to prevent scattering of chip with a spindle stock, and decreasing the installation limit for another device in a space above the spindle stock in a spindle moving type lathe. SOLUTION: This spindle moving type lathe includes: a slide cover 70 partitioning between the machining area R and the machining device installation area. In the machining area, a tool support means for cutting a work and a spindle chuck 6 installed in the spindle bed moving in the width direction of the machine to support the work are installed. Further, the slide cover is provided on both right and left sides of the spindle stock 16, and moved with the spindle stock by the movement in the width direction of the spindle stock, and the slide cover includes a thin plate part and a reinforcement part provided at a predetermined space from the thin plate part in the moving direction of the cover. A slide cover guide means is provided to movably guide the slide cover between a moving area corresponding to the moving area of the spindle stock and the vertical moving area along the inside surface of the machine body cover 3.
