PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an acrylic fiber that is obtained without using antimony or a halide, is provided with flame retardance and does not impair original feeling of acrylic fiber such as touch, firmness feeling, gloss and transparency. SOLUTION: The acrylic fiber contains 3-20 wt.% of hydrotalcite based on a single fiber weight. The method for producing the acrylic fiber comprises dissolving a copolymer of at least≥90 mol% of acrylonitrile and≤10 mol% of an unsaturated vinyl compound in an organic solvent to give a solution, adding a slurry of hydrotalcite to the solution to give a spinning dope and subjecting the dope to wet spinning.
