PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester containing a reduced amount of a cyclic trimer, a metal catalyst component and an impurity component, etc., mixed in the metal catalyst component, while the polyester has an intrinsic viscosity suitable for molding, a method for producing the polyester and a film composed of the polyester. SOLUTION: This polyester is produced by using a new polymerization catalyst other than an antimony compound or a germanium compound. The method for producing the polyester is also provided.
