PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thickener which can prevent a reducing substance in a mixture liquid from being oxidized by oxygen in the atmosphere, takes no excessive time for solid-liquid separation, and is excellent in convenience. SOLUTION: The thickener comprises a device main body (1) which stores a reducing substance mixture of a solid content and liquid on the condition that an interface is open to the atmosphere, a discharging opening (3a) which the precipitated solid content is discharged from and is formed at a bottom part (2) of the device main body, and a water-discharging opening (4c) which the liquid is discharged from and is formed at a vicinity of the interface of the liquid in the device main body. Further, a cylindrical body (5) is provided at the upper part of the device main body so that the interface of the liquid is to be positioned in it, and a pipe (6) for supplying the mixture liquid is connected to the lateral face of the cylindrical body at the position below the interface.
