PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium spray type fuel burner, and a combustion control method for the medium spray type fuel burner burning liquid fuel more safely and stably than a conventional medium spray type fuel burner. SOLUTION: The medium spray type fuel burner includes: a medium spray type fuel burner body 2 spraying the liquid fuel; a fuel shut-off valve 9 provided in a partway part of a fuel supply passage 3 supplying the liquid fuel to the medium spray type fuel burner body 2; a pressure detector 8 detecting a pressure of a spray medium supplied to the medium spray type fuel burner body 2 at a medium spray type fuel burner body 2 inlet; a flow rate detector 11 detecting a flow rate of the spray medium supplied to the medium spray type fuel burner body 2; and a control means 50 for carrying out control so as to close the fuel shut-off valve 9 when at least either value of the pressure detected by the pressure detector 8 or the flow rate detected by the flow rate detector 11 is a predetermined value or less.
