PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode material for a lithium secondary battery having a high charge acceptance property and a small swelling of electrode, and a negative electrode sheet.

SOLUTION: This is the negative electrode material of powder-like having a structure in which a carbonaceous material having inferior crystallinity to a graphite system carbonaceous material is coated on the graphite system carbonaceous material. The resistance (R) of the negative electrode for lithium secondary battery manufactured by this negative electrode material and a binder is 6.5 ohm or less, and the double layer capacitance (Cdl) of the negative electrode/electrolytic liquid interface is 7.0×10-4F or more and less than 10×10-4F.
