PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus provided with a function of a photosensitive substance in a red wavelength region and suitable for performing endoscope observation or the like for which the characteristics of the photosensitive substance are taken into consideration. SOLUTION: An observation object part 2 inside the body cavity is irradiated with illumination light generated in a light source device 4 through the light guide fiber 11 of a scope 3 and imaged by a CCD 15. When methylene blue is sprayed to the observation object part 2 so as to easily identify recesses and projections or the like, by operating a light quantity down switch SWd, the light quantity of red illumination light is reduced through a control circuit 36 or the like, and the generation of reactive oxygen species by the photosensitive substance is suppressed. Also, the gain of chrominance signals of R is increased in signal processing by a processor 5, and observation in the state that a color tone is not destroyed is made possible.
