PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of realizing a wider dynamic range (operating range) from a low illuminance region over a high illuminance region with a simple circuit configuration and to provide an imaging method usefully adopted by the imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: In the imaging apparatus of a reset type including pixels each provided with a transfer transistor and a reset transistor, a level of a gate voltage (signalΦr) of the reset transistor is set to a sub threshold level L1 in the extraction of an output signal V<SB>BL</SB>(detection signal). A sub threshold period (period from a time t2 to a time t3) is established wherein the reset transistor is operated in a sub threshold state according to the setting above. Moreover, a reset off transfer period (period from a time t1 to a time t2) is established, wherein electric charge signals of photodiodes are transferred to amplifiers in no application state of a reset voltage (signalΦr) by applying ON control (signalΦt) to the transfer transistor when the reset transistor is turned off.
