PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent rotational force and rotational moment from acting on a screw part and facilitate assembly in an automatic tensioner having a saw-tooth screw. SOLUTION: A rod member 18 is threadedly engaged with a nut member 16 in a cylinder chamber 14 of a housing 11 having a male screw 12 engaged with a screw hole 9 in an engine cover 8. The rod member 18 is divided into a push rod 18a and an adjust screw 18b so that the rotational force and the rotational moment acting on the push rod 18a from a chain guide 6 are prevented from being transmitted to the adjust screw 18b. A stopper ring 25 is incorporated in a ring accommodation groove 23 of a wearing 21 for supporting the push rod 18a, engaged with a stopper groove 26 in the push rod 18a, and retained by a retainer 27 of a ring holding groove 23. The automatic tensioner is assembled with the push rod 18a pressed therein. An engine is cranked to release the initial setting. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
