PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chemical conversion treatment method for forming a coating film which does not contain hexavalent chromium but is superior in corrosion resistance, in particular, a trivalent chromium coating film, on an aluminum or aluminum alloy material to be treated. SOLUTION: The chemical conversion treatment method for forming the coating film containing no hexavalent chromium on aluminum or an aluminum alloy includes a surface treatment step of adjusting the average surface roughness of aluminum or the aluminum alloy to a predetermined value as pretreatment for the chemical conversion treatment step.
