PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hair-treating method capable of applying excellent springiness and stiffness to hair, especially hair lacking in springiness and stiffness (for example, hair damaged by chemical treatment, etc., and thin hair of Westerner and aged person). SOLUTION: The hair treating method comprises the application of a silanol compound of formula (2) formed by the hydrolysis of an alkoxysilane of formula (1) and the heating of the applied part while preventing the evaporation of water. Particularly, the hair treating method comprises the application of a hair cosmetic produced by mixing the first agent containing an alkoxysilane of formula (1) and the second agent containing water to the hair and the heating of the applied part while preventing the evaporation of water. R<SP>1</SP><SB>p</SB>Si(OR<SP>2</SP>)<SB>4-p</SB>(1): R<SP>1</SP><SB>p</SB>Si(OH)<SB>n</SB>(OR<SP>2</SP>)<SB>4-p-n</SB>(2): R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a 1-6C alkyl or a 2-6C alkenyl; p is an integer of 0-3; and n is an integer of≥1 and≤(4-p).
