PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning device whose configuration is simple, cleaning performance is high relative to even small-diameter particles, and load on toner and a member to be cleaned is small. SOLUTION: This cleaning device 1 brings a mesh member 12 into contact with the member 2 to be cleaned, thereby removing foreign matters on the member 2. The mesh member 12 is made of modified cross-sectional fiber in which the edges of its cross-sectional shape form apexes and recesses. Particularly, the cross-sectional shape of the modified cross-sectional fiber is preferably such that the edges form three to six apexes and recesses that alternate with the apex and the recess.
