PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device, wherein enhancement of an yield and reduction of a manufacturing cost can be attained while maintaining high durability to withstand light. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the liquid crystal display device, which has a liquid crystal LC sealed between a pixel electrode substrate 4 having a display area 12 with pixel electrodes 10 aligned thereon and a connection portion, and a transparent electrode substrate 6 having a transparent electrode 18 and a connection portion, has steps: to form an alignment layer 16 composed of an inorganic substance on a surface of a pixel electrode substrate base material with a plurality of display areas aligned thereon; to form an alignment layer 20 on a surface of a transparent electrode substrate base material with the transparent electrode formed thereon; to form a base material junction body 30 by joining the pixel electrode substrate base material and the transparent electrode substrate base material with the liquid crystal enclosed in between; to form a plurality of single elements 40 by cutting off the base material junction body for the respective display areas in a state in which portions of the substrate facing junction portions have been removed; and to remove alignment layers formed on surfaces of the respective junction portions of the single elements.
