PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bistable twisted nematic liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: A first drive signal is sent out from a signal source, and the frequency of the first drive signal is defined as the first frequency. The first frequency drives liquid crystal molecules in a liquid crystal layer. After the signal source has stopped sending out the first driving signal, the liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer form a stable tilted homeotropic state, a second drive signal is sent out from the signal source; and further a second frequency comes subsequent to the first frequency in the close proximity thereof in the second driving signal, wherein the first frequency and the second frequency are made to be frequencies that differ from each other. The liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer are driven with the second driving signal. After the signal source has stopped the sending out of the second drive signal, the liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer form a stable twisted state. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
