A discharge tube array is provided with a plurality of discharge tubes (10) which have long and narrow tube shapes and phosphor layers (13) inside. The discharge tube array is provided with hollow sections (21) wherein the discharge tubes (10) can be arranged in parallel, and a holder (20) for removably holding the discharge tubes (10) from the hollow sections (21). The holder (20) is provided with a plurality of first electrodes (23) along the discharge tubes (10), and a plurality of second electrodes (24A, 24B) which intersect with the first electrodes (23) by sandwiching the hollow section (21).
