A name changing method of a wireless communication device and the wireless communication device for applying the method are provided to change a name of the wireless communication device if another wireless communication device having the same name as that of the wireless communication device exists within a local wireless network, and to notify a user of the changed name, thus the user can conveniently identify the wireless communication devices. A wireless communication device existing within a local network accesses more than one of other wireless communication devices existing within the network, and receives network addresses and names of the other wireless communication devices(200-240). The wireless communication device decides whether a name similar to a self name exists in the received names(250). If so, the wireless communication device changes the self name into another name(260).
