A method and an apparatus for driving an image display device are provided to vividly display dynamic moving pictures by stimulating brightness on a specific region. An apparatus for driving an image display device includes a display panel(110), a system(120), a data converter(150), and a panel driver(140). The display panel displays an image. The system generates source data and a driving signal. The data converter modulates the source data by using the driving signal to generate modulation data with different brightness for first and second regions of the display panel. The panel driver drives the display panel, so that an image corresponding to the modulation data is displayed on the display panel.
