[Class 46] The plates and washers of edge filters comprising non-porous elements such as metal plates or porous elements of fabric or filter paper separated by washers are formed with channels whose' total area is less than the area of the remaining portion of the plate or washer. The channels may be formed by stamping and may be provided on one or both faces of the plates or washers. Fig. 2 shows a plate or washer having channels 6 which may be radial as shown, or parallel to one another or of curved shape and which may vary in width and depth. Fig. 1 shows a part of a filter comprising a grooved drainage element 1 surrounded by a number of such channelled plates 5. Fig. 10 shows a filter of the kind claimed in Specification 432,102 in which the elements comprise discs of filter paper &c. 19 separated by washers 20 having channels as described above. The elements surround a perforated pipe 17 mounted in a casing having an inlet 13 and outlet 16 and they are secured in position by a member 22 which screws on to the pipe 17.</p> |
