A backlight unit for an LCD is provided to increase the quantity of light incident into a light guide and thus the quantity of light incident to a liquid crystal panel by increasing an area where light is incident into the light guide. A support main with a quadrangular-frame shape is formed on a cover bottom(135). Lamps(129) are arranged at both sides of the support main in a longitudinal direction. A lamp guide(133) guides the lamps. A reflective plate(125) is formed on the support main in order. A light guide(123) is received on the reflective plate, and has an embossing pattern at both side surfaces and a lower surface. A backlight unit(120) further includes a plurality of optical sheets received on the light guide. A liquid crystal panel(111) is received on the backlight unit. A top cover(113) encompasses an edge of the liquid crystal panel, and is assembled and coupled to the support main and the cover bottom. |
