PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide image forming system and method, and an image reading apparatus arranged to transfer image data formed in a color data format depending on the characteristics of a desired printer. SOLUTION: Information inherent to a printer including color data format information and compression format information is acquired from a printer selected by a user and stored in a memory 15, and a CPU 16 designates a reading section 10 to read out a print document. Read out data is used in an image creating section 13 for creating image data based on the color data format information stored in the memory 15. When a compression format is specified, the created image data is compressed to create image data being transferred to a printer.
