PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for treating water capable of efficiently cleaning an electrode used for water treatment. SOLUTION: This apparatus carries out a cleaning treatment of the electrodes 5 and 6 by periodically supplying cleaning water in a treatment tank 1 through a cleaning water supply path 12 to supply a chemical to the cleaning water through a chemical supply path 14, and to adjust an open amount of a cooling water flow amount regulating valve 11, thereby making the flow amount of the cooling water supplied to a heat exchanger 9 smaller than that when water is treated, increasing temperature of the cleaning water (cleaning water supplied with the chemical) in the treatment tank 1, and carrying out cleaning treatment of the electrodes 5 and 6. Accordingly, this apparatus can enhance a cleaning effect of the electrodes 5 and 6 with the chemical by increasing the temperature of the cleaning water in the treatment tank 1 to carry out the cleaning treatment. Further, this apparatus only makes the flow amount of the cooling water supplied to the heat exchanger 9 smaller than that when water is treated and not separately required to provide a specific mechanism.
