PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pump idling prevention mechanism for a high pressure washer capable of preventing partial wear or breakage of a high pressure pump due to idling by stopping a driving unit on reception of drying out signal by a stopping unit even if a strainer is clogged with foreign matter and water supply to the high pressure pump becomes insufficient and it is forgotten to stop the high pressure pump in the state of no water supply. SOLUTION: The pump idling prevention mechanism comprises a high pressure gun 1, a high pressure pump 2 to which the high pressure gun 1 is connected through a high pressure hose 3, an engine 4 for driving the high pressure pump 2, a sensor 9 installed in a water suction side of the high pressure pump 2 to detect water insufficiency state at a water suction port 2a, a stopping unit 10 for stopping the engine 4 by receiving the water insufficiency signal from the sensor 9, and a timer 12 for canceling the water insufficiency signal for several seconds to make the engine 4 start at the time of starting when the stopping unit 10 receives the water insufficiency signal.
