PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that when an optical type linear encoder is used in an inkjet printer, if the linear encoder is used for long hours, an ink mist generated by the inkjet recording adheres to a light transmitting section of the scale of the linear encoder, and the optical type linear encoder causes a reading error. SOLUTION: This image recording device is constituted of an optical sensor comprising the scale on which a large number of slits are provided, a light emitting section and a light receiving section. In this case, the slit is formed into a roll shape, and transmits light. The scale is made turnable, and for the encoder scale which is bonded to a shaft, a stained section is wound up by rotating the shaft. The scale at a clean section moves to the optical sensor reading position, and thus, the scale which is always clean can be used without cleaning. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
