The method involves identifying an operating device (6) as an emergency release requirement of a controller (1) to activate an emergency release process. The controller is connected with the operating device. The process controls a locking device (4) of a parking brake (3) in order to release the brake. The controller controls an actuator (2) to attain the brake pressure, which is required for releasing the brakes. An independent claim is also included for an automatic parking brake with an emergency releasing function.
