A jaw chuck (4) is arranged on a holder (3) for receiving a number of jaw members. The gripping device has gripping fingers (5a,5b) formed so that during a gripping movement, the free ends move towards the gripping axis (B), which is different from the center axis (A) of the jaw chuck (4).
