A method of converting the operating state of a multimedia terminal comprises the steps of: detecting the infrared signal of the human around the environment of the multimedia terminal; transforming the detected infrared signal into a triggering signal, and inputting the triggering signal to the said multimedia terminal, thereby converting the power saving state to the operating state. A multimedia terminal comprises an infrared signal detecting element and an infrared signal processing element. It can transforming the infrared signal emitted from the human around the environment into a triggering signal, and thereby converting the power saving state to the operating state.
