<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly deal with an image defect arising from charging failure of a charging roller, by precisely detecting smearing of the charging roller, in an image forming apparatus charging a photoreceptor drum by the charging roller. <P>SOLUTION: The charging roller 12 is brought into contact with the photoreceptor drum 11. The smearing of the charging roller is determined according to image fogging on a recording sheet by applying a second charging bias of only a DC voltage to the charging roller to perform development without exposure and performing the transferring onto the recording sheet. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
