PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve real-time property in PC tracing regarding a microprocessor including a PC trace function and a control method thereof. SOLUTION: A microprocessor and a control method thereof includes: a TPC compression circuit 12 which compares a branch destination PC (program counter) with a preset address range and generates compression information 15 of the branch destination PC based on a result of the comparison if a PC discontinuously changes into the branch destination PC in response to a branch instruction or the like; and a compression TPC output circuit 13 which extracts a partial bit sequence of the branch destination PC as a compression address based on the branch destination PC and the compression information 15 from the TPC compression circuit 12, and outputs the compression information 15 and the compression address as trace information 14.
