PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device and an image writing device which allow an image to be written in a correct positional direction without requiring user's labor. SOLUTION: An image irradiation part 32 of an image writing device 30 is provided with a ultrasonic transmission sensor 200, and ultrasonic reception sensors 210-1, 210-2, 210-3, and 210-4 are provided at four corners of a recording medium 10. A control part 40 transmits an electric wave to the ultrasonic transmission sensor 200 through a transmission part 111, and the ultrasonic reception sensors 210-1 to 210-4 receive the outputted electric wave through a reception part 112. The control part 40 detects a setting condition of the recording medium 10 on the image irradiation part 32 on the basis of a time difference between electric wave transmission and reception, and a direction of the image irradiated from the image irradiation part 32 is controlled on the basis of the detection result.
