PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sealing member excellent in water resistance for sealing a liquid crystal member (electrooptic conversion member) inside a pair of substrates. SOLUTION: The sealing member for sealing the liquid crystal member (electrooptic conversion member) 15 between a pair of upper and lower substrates 21 and 11 is constituted of a first sealing member 27 and a second sealing member 28. The first sealing member 27 is disposed on the side of the liquid crystal member 15 and the second sealing member 28 is disposed on the outer side so as to surround the first sealing member 27. Then, the sealing member having the characteristics that the linear expansion coefficient of the first sealing member 27 is smaller than the linear expansion coefficient of the second sealing member 28 and the water absorption of the second sealing member 28 is lower than the water absorption of the first sealing member 27 is used.
