The battery charger has transmission units (10, 12, 14, 16) comprising light emitting diode or a liquid crystal display (LCD) for remote transfer of information to a positioning unit. The information is related to the condition of the charging process. The transmission units are formed of optical and/or acoustic telecommunication units. An interface is provided for producing a connection with a data network. An independent claim is also included for a system comprising a charging unit.
