PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method capable of confirming an effect of background elimination processing and revising setting for the background elimination processing as required by simulating an image formed by an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: A setting section 1 can set an elimination amount in the background elimination processing as one of image forming conditions from a user. A simulation section 2 carries out various pieces of image processing including the background elimination processing according to the elimination amount set by the setting section 1, generates a simulation image simulating an image obtained when the image forming apparatus forms the image, and displays the simulation image and the original image on a display section 3 side by side. The image forming condition can be set until a desired image is obtained. The setting image forming condition is fed to the image forming apparatus which carries out the image forming processing under the image forming condition including the background elimination processing according to the elimination amount and can form the desired image.
