PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save power consumption by gradually performing adjustment to obtain fixed low luminance, so as to allow a user to scarcely aware of the reduction of the luminance on a screen when an energy saving mode is selected and not to allow the user to keep away from the energy saving mode, through the use of black back displaying concerning a liquid crystal TV receiver, where the black back displaying is performed on the screen during a period when a video signal is not input. SOLUTION: At the time when a mode is changed-over into the energy saving mode, a standard voltage A is supplied, so as to obtain the standard luminance. At the time (t1) when the input of the video signal is stopped, the black back displaying is performed on the screen, and also, the voltage to be supplied to a fluorescent tube is rapidly reduced to be a limit value (d) by a predetermined reduction width. After that, the voltage value is kept during the period NS when the video signal is not inputted. The voltage value is kept even at the time (t2) when the video signal is inputted again. Whenever the input of the video signal is stopped, the same operation is repeated.
