PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encoder having a structure which allows extraction of a connector in a plurality of directions, even using one kind of a cover. SOLUTION: The encoder comprises an encoder body 1 which detects a rotation of an object to be measured, the cover 2 which covers a rear portion of the encoder body, the connector 4 connecting an internal circuit and an outer circuit of the encoder body 1. The connector 4 has a constitution, where the connector is mounted to the cover 2 via an adapter 3, which can change an installation direction of this connector 4, so that, the encoder can change the connector extraction direction, without changing the cover.
