PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine highly accurately existence of a display defect part even if brightness of an image on a liquid crystal panel has individual difference, and to acquire stable inspection accuracy. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with the liquid crystal panel 1 whose transmittance T can be changed by an applied voltage V, a CCD camera 5 for taking an image displayed on the the liquid crystal panel 1, a computer device 6 for operating image data taken by the CCD camera 5, and a pattern generator 3 for generating the image data to be displayed on the the liquid crystal panel 1 based on a display command signal from the computer device 6. The computer device 6 calculates the average illuminance La of the image based on the image data taken by the CCD camera 5, adjusts by changing the applied voltage V so that the average illuminance La falls in a set range, and analyzes the image when the average illuminance La falls in the set range, to thereby detect existence of the display defect part 10b.
