PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damage detection method of a structure capable of detecting even a damage in an initial stage of the structure by a simple method. SOLUTION: This damage detection method of the structure has a sampling process for acquiring a time-series waveform of free vibration of the structure, an analysis process for acquiring a time-frequency distribution by analyzing the time-series waveform of the free vibration, and a determination process for determining existence of a damage of the structure on the basis of a duration of the vibration over a secondary mode of the structure in the time-frequency distribution or on a time until disturbance of a frequency in the primary mode of the structure is started.
